Who’s this Guy?

Alright, so we won’t start at the very beginning of my story, but let’s at least journey back to the start of my journey that led me to Indian Hills Camp.  I was 22, standing outside of a baseball stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and had just retired from the only job I had ever wanted.  It was the middle of my second season as a pitcher in the St. Louis Cardinals organization and I had just got off the phone with the GM and my wife and was left to wonder what in the world was next for me.

The drive from Iowa to San Diego is always long, even more so when trying to contemplate what the Lord had next for me.  My wife had just started her new job and what I thought my ministry platform was going to be was seemingly gone. Fast forward a few months and a couple of lunches at Rubio’s, and I was on staff with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, serving the community that I had gone to high school in.  I was able to walk onto campuses and meet with coaches I knew from competing across the field from and share the gospel with them. One of the centerpiece events for FCA was summer camp and I found a great passion for serving in the operations and execution of those events.

Over the course of a nearly 15-year run on staff with FCA, I held roles of the Regional Camp Director and then Regional Director of Ministry Advancement. Both of these positions had me heavily invested in the people, programs, and processes of the ministry reaching thousands of athletes and coaches across CA, NV, and HI every week. Our camp ministry culminated in 2019 with our So Cal camp at UCLA hosting over 1,000 high school athletes for the week, UC Davis in Nor Cal with over 350 athletes, and another 40 camps run at the local levels by our staff.

During that same time, the Lord opened a door for baseball to reenter my life and I took on the role of Head Baseball Coach at San Diego Christian College.  I spent seven years at SDCC, and when my time ended there I was the Athletic Director and Vice President of Operations.  I was able to again find a role to invest in people, provide vision of programming, and support strategic processes.

In June 2023, I began in my role as the Executive Director of Indian Hills Camp.  It has been a blast to hear the stories of impact from decades of ministry in our community and at the same time operate in “start-up” mode as we grow the infrastructure and programming of a reborn organization.  The Lord has been faithful in leading me to roles that allow for vision casting and supporting a team to execute.  We have a fantastic staff at camp and it has been a great joy joining the team.

That’s the work stuff, on a more personal level now…  My wife Dianna and I have been married for over 20 years and have four children.  We are just a few weeks away from having two high schoolers and another in junior high: pray for us!

It’s an honor and privilege to serve at Indian Hills Camp, we look forward to seeing you at camp soon and continuing to celebrate the execution of our mission: Reaching kids for Jesus Christ through camping.
